Hambela Coffee is one of only a few Ethiopian coffees that has an identity from one single farm. The Hambela Coffee Estate was founded by Muluemebet Emiru, who in 1934 became Africa’s first female pilot. The estate currently serves as a part of Muluemebet’s family's agricultural project called the Muluemebet Emiru Agricultural Development (METAD). On the Hambela Estate you can find the only coffee quality control lab certified by the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) in Africa's borders.
