It is not common that we offer washed coffee from Ethiopia, that is why this special coffee is expected by lovers of washed coffees but from this amazing country. This coffee is likewise sourced from the more than 700 peasant families of the small community of Dumerso, in Ethiopia's renowned Yirgacheffe coffee region.
For this washed-process coffee, the coffee, after being harvested, goes through the pulping process, which is to remove the first red skin, then it is left in fermentation tanks for around 18 hours and then washed in running channels to finally become dried on raised beds that allow air to circulate. The coffee dries completely in around 8 days. As a result you can expect less fruity coffee compared to its Dumerso Natural brother but with brighter and juicier flavors. This complex operation is managed by one of the most inspiring women leaders in specialty coffee, Hirut (aka Beti) Birhanu. During the harvest season, the Dumerso coffee operation provides employment for nearly 400 people from the local community, including many women.
