Love coffee, love people! (work and grow here!)

| |

We’ve been doing a lot of growing lately, and that’s why we haven’t been able to put so many posts up here on the blog. Basically, for those who’ve known us for while, we’ve gone from a hole-in-the-wall cute little outfit to being a roaster and two of the more visited cafes in Seattle. Only a short four years ago, we were three-and-one-half souls braving the winter storms on Pike Street. Now we’re an actual little company of 20 or so fine coffee people. And, just in case you’re wondering, we’re still as quirky and cute as back in the day.

In more than one way, a new day has sprung here at Seattle Coffee Works. We’ve always taken pride in making some of the finest coffees around, but as of late we’ve started aiming even higher. What if we could actually make a small difference in the world with our coffee? Is that hoping for too much? We think not.

Care to consider joining us on our journey? If so, please read on for our current posting for new team members and then hurry and send your information to careers (at) seattlecoffeeworks (dot) com. Here is our current posting:

Love Coffee, Love People?

Seattle Coffee Works is a coffee roaster with two busy cafes in Seattle. Our coffees have gained national recognition in blind taste contests. We strive to be a leader in coffee exploration and innovation. We’re looking for full-time coffee professionals to help grow our team and company.

We have no positions for part-timers, summer interns, or short-term job seekers at this time. Please do not apply and do not expect a response if you’re seeking short-term or part-time employment. Only apply, if you are committed to becoming a full-time team member and aspire to make your career in the growing specialty coffee trade.

Why would you want to join us?

Coffee Apprenticeship Extensive initial and on-going training in all coffee brew methods, tasting and scoring coffee farm to cup. For most new team members, regardless of prior experience, it takes up to twelve months to be certified in our Coffee Hospitality standards. We train to the highest standard we know and until the new team member can comfortably and consistently make excellent coffee both on our Slow Bar (Chemex, Hario V-60, Vacuum Pot, French Press, Aeropress) and the Espresso Bar. We also provide frequent opportunities to learn more about the entire coffee value chain from farm to cup: origin trips, a coffee lab with state-of-the-art tools, cuppings multiple times per week. If you see coffee through our eyes, you see a never-ending learning opportunity that only starts with being able to make excellent coffee in our cafes and over time expands to an all-encompassing life pursuit.

Continuous Education and Training Opportunities After the initial apprenticeship, we provide financial support for team members to develop their coffee knowledge through on-going training and education inside and outside the company.

Excellent Coffee and Equipment A lineup of the most excellent espresso blends and single-origin coffees and state-of-the-art equipment. We’re often asked to beta-test pioneering brewing devices.

Coffee as a Career We’re looking for team members who are ambitious about coffee, making coffee a long-term career and raising the bar for this industry.

Are we a fit for you?

Job vs. Career Are you ready to fully commit yourself to one place of work and one career? (We find that we’re usually not a good fit for folks who are looking for a supplemental job either financing unrelated school work or another passion in their lives.)

Hard Work Are you ready to work really hard both mentally and physically and do whatever it takes to create an excellent coffee experience for each and every customer?

Lifelong Learner Do you see yourself as a lifelong learner, someone who will go out of her or his way to seek additional knowledge?

Change Do you embrace change? Do you excel at leading change?

Love for Service Are you excited about the challenge of making five-star coffee for some of the most discerning customers imaginable?

If you were able to respond with a resounding “YES!” to these questions, we’d love to hear from you.

Please send us your resume and a personal statement identifying why you want to pursue a career in coffee and why you want to do so at Seattle Coffee Works.

We look forward to hearing from you!
